The idea is born...
It was a dark stormy Friday night in East London. Having recently relocated across the pond, 5 friends sat staring at a map of Europe deciding where they wanted to explore next. As the soft buzz of the space heater filled the room and the rain/snow/sleet mixture poured down onto the (council) estate courtyard outside, one member of the group turned to the rest and the conversation went a little something like this:
Friend #1: I don’t even give a care where I go; I want to see it all!!!
Friend #2: Even Romania?
Friend #3: I’m hungry.......
Friend #4: Be quiet Friend #3! What if we just take turns planning trips? That way we’ll get to see lots of different places.
Friend #5: OR what if we take turns planning trips but no one gets to know where we are going! It would be like.... a mystery!
Friend #2: Why would we agree to go on a trip where we aren’t allowed to know WHERE?
Friend #4: Because, it will be fun! There is a reason why surprise parties are so much fun. People LIKE surprises.
Friend #1: I agree, let’s do it! We can agree on a budget and try to avoid places that some of us have been before.
Friend #5: It’s perfect ! We shall call them..... MYSTERY TRIPS!
Friend #3: Great – now what are we having for dinner.
Friends # 1, 2, 4,5: Quiet – devil woman!
OK, so the above conversation is not exactly how it went down, but you get the picture. The truth is, we don’t remember exactly how the idea came about. It was a product of a few conversations between friends over the odd drink here and there and VOILA, the idea of Mystery Trips was born......
